Palestinian Private Sector Rejects Superficial Approaches to Gaza Reconstruction, Demands Political Solutions
The Palestinian Private Sector Coordinating Council has announced its categorical rejection of any approaches or proposals that reduce the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip to mere timelines or isolated media statements. The Council’s position comes as a firm response to recent remarks made by the U.S. President regarding the rebuilding of the Strip.
A Rejection of “Technical” Fixes
The Council emphasized that discussing reconstruction in isolation from the root causes of destruction—most notably the ongoing aggression and the comprehensive blockade—represents a deliberate disregard for the essence of the Palestinian cause. It further noted that such rhetoric fails to reflect the scale of the unprecedented humanitarian and economic catastrophe facing the people of Gaza.
The statement underscored that reconstruction cannot be treated as a technical or humanitarian process detached from a comprehensive political solution. The Council asserted that genuine and effective rebuilding necessitates:
-
An end to the occupation.
-
A permanent cessation of aggression.
-
The full lifting of the blockade, which remains the primary driver of economic collapse and deteriorating living conditions.
National Sovereignty and Institutional Role
Reiterating its commitment to national sovereignty, the Council explicitly rejected any initiatives that bypass the role of the Palestinian National Authority or diminish the Palestinian people’s right to manage their own national affairs. It affirmed that Palestinian institutions, led by the private sector, are essential partners in planning and implementation—not marginal actors or mere aid recipients.
International Responsibility
The Council held the international community, particularly the United States, fully accountable for its legal and moral obligations toward Gaza’s reconstruction. It stressed that these responsibilities cannot be circumvented through political promises or media-driven initiatives that lack clear implementation mechanisms and genuine guarantees.
The Council’s primary demands include:
-
Immediate and unconditional lifting of the blockade to ensure the free flow of humanitarian supplies and basic needs.
-
Empowering local national institutions and the private sector to lead the reconstruction process entirely.
-
Establishing transparent international mechanisms to prevent the politicization of reconstruction or its use as a tool for political leverage.
A Warning Against Political Exploitation
Closing its statement, the Council warned against exploiting the suffering of the Palestinian people to serve political agendas that conflict with their legitimate national rights. It maintained that any reconstruction process not rooted in justice or addressing the historical grievances of the Gaza Strip is “destined to fail” and will lack long-term sustainability.
The Palestinian Private Sector Coordinating Council concluded by affirming that Gaza will remain resilient against all dictates, steadfast in its legitimate right to rebuild what the occupation has destroyed through independent national will and in alignment with the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.
