The Palestinian Private Sector Coordination Council Participates in “MIFTAH” Conference on Participatory and Integrative Governance in Times of Crisis

Toward a Strategic and Effective Public–Private Partnership

Ramallah – As part of national efforts to strengthen governance mechanisms and crisis management, the Palestinian Private Sector Coordination Council participated in the conference titled “Participatory and Integrative Governance as a Strategy for Managing Governance in Times of Crisis – Toward a Unified National Compass,” organized by MIFTAH (The Palestinian Initiative for the Promotion of Global Dialogue and Democracy) in Ramallah, with simultaneous participation from Gaza via Zoom. The conference brought together representatives of civil society institutions, government bodies, local authorities, academics, researchers, and international stakeholders.

The Council was represented by Mr. Mohammed Nassar, Director of the Council, who presented the Council’s vision regarding the role of the private sector amid the current crises. He emphasized that the private sector is not merely an economic actor, but a fundamental pillar of national resilience and crisis management. He stressed that the private sector must be an integral part of the national decision-making framework, rather than a secondary or marginal stakeholder in public policy.

The Council’s Strategic Vision and Role

Mr. Nassar explained that the Council continues to support the operational sector and the labor market in Palestine, particularly in light of ongoing crises that have affected all economic sectors. Through targeted initiatives, the Council works to reduce unemployment, create job opportunities, and enhance the resilience and sustainability of businesses under severe economic pressures.

He also reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to strengthening the concept of social responsibility within the private sector toward Palestinian society, despite the significant challenges faced by businesses. He noted that the private sector itself is struggling and facing difficulties similar to those affecting other sectors, which necessitates stronger coordination and partnership with official institutions to develop practical and sustainable solutions.

Key Recommendations of the Council

On behalf of the Palestinian business community, the Council presented a set of strategic recommendations aimed at reinforcing integration between the public and private sectors in crisis governance:

  1. Establishing a permanent coordination mechanism between the government and the Private Sector Coordination Council during crises to ensure effective information exchange and joint decision-making.

  2. Including private sector representatives in economic emergency committees to ensure meaningful participation in shaping economic policies.

  3. Officially recognizing the Coordination Council as a formal channel for economic consultation between decision-makers and private sector representatives.

The Private Sector as a Core Partner in National Resilience

Mr. Nassar concluded by affirming that effective crisis management cannot be achieved without the active involvement of the private sector as a core partner in national resilience. Excluding the private sector from strategic decision-making processes weakens the country’s overall capacity to respond to crises.

The Council’s participation in the conference reflects its ongoing commitment to strengthening the role of the private sector in supporting the national economy and enhancing institutional integration to improve crisis response mechanisms across Palestine.
